 What is now a system of paved recreational trails paralleling Highway 75 which runs thru Hailey and the Wood River Valley. Once a part of the historic Union Pacific rail line, in the 1970s a new life for this abandoned railway was envisioned, which became the Blaine County Recreation District..http://www.bcrd.org The trail is open to hikers, walkers and cyclists. In the winter the trail becomes a cross country skiing path that runs from Bellevue to Galena. New in 2004 the Quigley Canyon Ranch Winter Recreation Area opened on the east side of Hailey with 10km of groomed cross country/skate/ski trails. . And surrounding Hailey is the great Sawtooth National Forest The Sawtooth National Recreation Area begins just 12 miles north of Hailey at the SNRA Visitors Center. The SNRA is named for the jagged Sawtooth Mountains cut by glaciers throusands of years ago. Photographers, hikers, boaters, campers and anglers are all attracted to the area.And don't forget about our famous skateboard park right in downtown Hailey
